Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is a radio interferometer located in the Atacama Desert, Chile. It consists of 66 antennas that work together to form a single telescope, allowing for high-resolution observations of celestial objects at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. ALMA is used by astronomers to study the formation of stars and galaxies, as well as the properties of interstellar gas and dust. The array has been in operation since 2013 and has produced numerous scientific discoveries.
