Broken Embraces is a 2009 Spanish-language romantic drama film written, produced, and directed by Pedro Almodóvar. The film tells the story of Mateo Blanco, a blind man who lost his sight and his lover in a car accident on the island of Lanzarote. Using a pseudonym, Harry Caine, he writes novels and screenplays, while living with his loyal production assistant Judit García and her son Diego. When Diego is injured, Harry begins to tell him the story of Mateo Blanco's past love affair with Lena, which ultimately leads to tragedy.
