The Chihuahua Club of America, founded in 1923, was created to develop a community of Chihuahua breeders and further the breed in the United States. Notable founding members include Ida H. Garrett & Clara L. Dobbs (founders of the Meron Bloodline), both having owned, bred, and exhibited the breed since the late 1800s. Other founding members were Henrietta Proctor Donnell, Alice Dobbs, Rose Clark, Helen Nowicki, and M.R. Muller. Helen Nowicki was not just an early Chihuahua breeder, but also the editor of Dog World magazine.
