Firesheep is a free, open-source software tool that allows users to intercept and steal HTTPS sessions from other computers on the same network. It was created by Eric Butler in 2010 as a demonstration of the vulnerabilities in some websites' use of HTTPS encryption. Firesheep works by exploiting weaknesses in the way some websites handle session cookies, allowing an attacker to gain access to a user's account without needing their password.
