Grand Coulee Dam is a hydroelectric dam located on the Columbia River in Washington State, United States. It was constructed between 1933 and 1942 as part of the Columbia Basin Project to provide irrigation water for agriculture and generate electricity. The dam impounds Lake Roosevelt, a large reservoir that stretches over 130 miles upstream from the dam. Grand Coulee Dam is one of the largest dams in the world by installed capacity and is considered an important engineering feat.
