The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia was a United Nations court established to prosecute individuals responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide committed during the conflicts in the Balkans in the 1990s. It operated from 1993 to 2017 and produced significant jurisprudence on international humanitarian law. The tribunal provided victims with an opportunity to testify and brought perpetrators to justice.
