The International Organization for Succulent Plant Study (IOS) is a non-profit international organization founded in 1950 to promote the study and conservation of succulent plants. It was established by a group of researchers and botanists, including Hans Krainz, Franz Buxbaum, and H. Michael Roan, who aimed to encourage international cooperation among those interested in succulent plants. The IOS has held several congresses and inter-congresses since its inception, with notable events including the 3rd IOS Congress in London in 1955, which attracted members from non-European countries. As of 1994, the organization had reached a peak membership of 239 individuals.
