The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals is a judicial body responsible for the prosecution and retrial of individuals accused of war crimes, genocide, and other serious violations of international humanitarian law. It was established to complete the work of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). The Mechanism conducts trials, appeals proceedings, and review proceedings, as well as monitors cases referred to national jurisdictions.
