Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary is a marine protected area located approximately 506 kilometers off the coast of Colombia, encompassing Malpelo Island and its surrounding waters. The sanctuary covers an area of 857,150 hectares and provides a critical habitat for several internationally threatened marine species. It is recognized as one of the few places in the world where certain deepwater shark species have been confirmed to exist.
