The Max Planck Society is a German research organization that conducts basic scientific research in the natural sciences, life sciences, social sciences, and humanities. It has 85 institutes and facilities across Germany, employing over 15,000 people. The society was established in 1911 as the Kaiser Wilhelm Society and was renamed after Max Planck in 1948. It is notable for having produced 31 Nobel laureates among its scientists.
