The Global Environment Facility is a partnership between the World Bank Group, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the United Nations Development Programme that provides financing and support for developing countries to address global environmental issues. Established in 1991, it has approved over 870 projects across 146 countries with funding from almost US$5.6 billion. The GEF's investments have catalyzed additional investment of approximately US$44 billion from other sources and have supported transformative shifts in key economic systems.
