Up Helly Aa is a community event held annually on the last Tuesday in January in Lerwick, Shetland. It involves a series of marches and visitations culminating in a torch-lit procession and the burning of a galley. The event requires extensive preparations from February onwards, with volunteers contributing many hours towards its organization.
