The X-15 Flight Program was a NASA-funded experimental aircraft project that conducted high-speed flight tests in the 1950s and 1960s. The program aimed to gather data on aerodynamics, heat transfer, and other phenomena at speeds up to Mach 6.5 (around six times the speed of sound). The X-15 aircraft made significant contributions to the understanding of hypersonic flight and paved the way for future space exploration.
